Iris Dampers for Concentric Airflow Adjustment An iris damper changes the effective opening through a group of overlapping blades that move toward or away from the duct center. This concentric aperture distinguishes it from a single rotating butterfly blade. The category currently includes the PP motorized iris damper for laboratory airflow-control applications where the specified duct, air stream, actuator, and control sequence are compatible with this mechanism.
Evaluate the Complete Air Path Select the nominal duct connection from the required airflow, available pressure, permitted velocity, and installed system resistance. Review the body and blade material against the actual chemical exposure, temperature, and cleaning method. The actuator must also match the required power supply, command signal, feedback, runtime, control direction, fail behavior, and communication interface. Adequate straight duct, service access, and a defined airflow-measurement method are still required for commissioning.
Know When Another Valve Type Is More Suitable An iris damper is not a substitute for every VAV device. Compare it with Butterfly Airflow Dampers when shaft-driven blade control or rectangular geometry is preferred. Use the Venturi Air Valves category when the design specifically calls for the characterized pressure-independent Venturi mechanism.
For quotation and selection, provide the airflow range, duct diameter, operating pressure, air-stream chemistry, temperature, mounting orientation, actuator and controls schedule, sensing arrangement, BMS points, quantity, and destination. Final performance applies to the approved size and configured control package.
